Congratulations on publishing Days of Fire, when was this book released?

Thank you very much. The actual release date was 2020; but it was three years prior that a gentle whisper urged me to write the unforgettable story of the Maccabees. I started writing Days of Fire in 2017, at the time of Hanukkah. After writing my first chapters, I stopped, and began writing Kingdom of Eternity. In hindsight, I believe it was fear that made me stop writing Days of Fire. Fear of writing battle scenes, which I knew were vital for this novel. It was two years later, shortly after Hanukkah, in January 2019, when I finally picked up my pen and began drawing up the various battles and historic dates in my notebook. I couldn’t stop ignoring the little voice in the back of my head telling me to write down this specific story.

What is your target demographic with this book?

When I began writing Days of Fire, I honestly did not think of my target audience. I just knew this story had to come out. But this story is for all historical fiction lovers, time-travel fans, and of course for those that seek the truth and answers about one of the biblical feast days.

What other books written apart from Days of Fire?

My very first historical fiction time-travel novel, Escape Through Time plays in ancient Rome. My second historical fiction and time-travel novel, Kingdom of Eternity, is set in ancient Egypt; and my two time-travelers, Jason and Tess arrive in Egypt just before the first plague hits the beautiful land.
I have also written one non-fiction book, Homeschooling Against All Odds. It’s my personal journal entries from our last two years living in Germany. We dared to take our children out of the public school system and homeschool two of our children at the time; in a country where it is illegal to do so, and where the government owns the children. Many parents who chose to homeschool have lost their children to the government. Other families are destroyed financially. This is our faith-walk experience to encourage others who struggle in their lives.

When did you realise that you had a talent for writing?

My childhood years were spent in Germany. I remember in grade 5, Germany’s well-known and beloved author Marie-Louise Fischer visited my classroom. I sat glued to my chair, listening to her, my heart pounding in my little chest, as I hung on to every word she spoke. When she finished, I was the first one at the front, shaking her hand, telling her that one day I will be an author. She smiled at me, but who knows what she thought looking down at this scrawny kid in front of her.

Will there be a sequel to Days of Fire?

At the present, I have no plans for a sequel to Days of Fire.

Apart from the historical parts which are based on facts, did you always know how the rest of the story would go? I have to admit, I had absolutely no idea where the story would take me, apart from the historical facts. I had created my two main characters, Shireen and Marius, but that was it in the beginning. I wasn’t even sure how they would connect nor meet. I just wrote one word after another, one sentence after another, and before I knew it, the story unfolded itself in front of me, and the characters started doing their own thing. It’s wonderful when that happens.

Do you identify with any of the characters in Days of Fire?

I suppose every author leaves a little bit of themselves within their characters. So yes, there is definitely a little bit of myself in both Marius and Shireen.

If you could go back in time, which era would you choose to go back to?

That is a question not easily answered. I have written about ancient Rome and ancient Egypt, two places I definitely always enjoyed. But there are so many other places in time, one wishes to see, too many to mention. If I could, I would book a round-trip with a time-machine.

Are you set to release more books in the future?

At the moment I have laid down my pen. But I have been pouring all my artistic flow upon canvasses, painting in acrylics and watercolours. The feeling of creating paintings is immensely satisfying and enough for me at the moment.

Where can your fans and well wishers connect with you?
